Favourite Photo
Week 2 (January 8-14)
Theme: Favourite Photo
The theme for Week 2 is "Favorite Photo." I've had this theme in almost every version of 52 Ancestors because, let's face it, who can choose just one?! Plus, we should be telling the stories of those photos so they don't get lost to time.
This week's prompt for #52ancestors is hard for me - we are not a family that has a lot of photos. Except Christmas trees!
Every year, without fail as I was growing up, a picture that years Christmas tree was snapped. No one was ever in it (there were also the regular holiday photos) - it was just the tree, decorated and ready. I don't know when or where the tradition started. I have seen one or two from the 1950s or 1960s when my mom was growing up, but I definitely know my grandma Melva had oodles of trees from the 1980s until the 2000s. (Also a lot of generic scenery images. My grandparents lived in northern Ontario and frequently went out camping in the bush or just out for drives.)
Unfortunately, there was a purge.
After my grandparents' deaths, all those undated trees went into the bin. They were just trees after all, with no people. And there was a lot of *stuff* to go through, as there usually is in such circumstances.
As I reflect upon the "tradition" that was (only realizing in retrospect that it was a tradition of sorts), I've decided to revive it, though it will be a purely digital monster. Therefore, I leave you with Christmas Tree 2022.
(Taken post-Christmas and after the cats have been playing under and with it - so it's in a slightly ragged state!)For more information on the "52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks" challenge, as well as details on how to participate, please visit Amy Johnson Crow's Modern Genealogy Made Easy.
